Open Heart

And she was afraid

To let you see her heart;

It made her feel naked

Vulnerable

Neath your gaze–

Because beneath the layers

Deep down

It was terrifying

For you to read her

Like a book

And know her weakest points:

She was scared

To have them used against her;

But not letting you in

Gave her no way out

And that would leave her alone

Which frightened her

Even more.
