Out of Pain

Out of pain

Like a treasure

Ripped from a chest

Unearthed and raw

Newly mined

And still encrusted with bits of earth

Where you feel a bit less grounded

Comes gems of knowledge;

A realization

That things and people

Are more precious than they seem;

Things held too tightly

Or too lightly

Or too seldom

Take on new reality

Newly assayed value

Extracted from blind spots

That didn’t quite map

On the list of things to properly treasure

A sort of win-lose exchange

At a very unfair price

With the only solace being

That the one you loved

Insufficiently held

Too late

Now can rest

Out of pain
